"Blog 2: First draft of goals essay"

Everybody always has that defining moment, in which they find their true motives in life. I never thought that I would actually have one until one day it came to me. When it came it made a great impact on me and my goals in life. It shaped me into the person I am today.

I remember that day like no other. Sitting next to that girl pulling her hands from the razor, so she wouldn't make the biggest mistake of her life, a mistake she wouldn't be able to take back. Trying to convince her that her resolution to what she thinks would put her out her misery was very absurd and that there was better options that didn't include taking oneself's life away. I didn't know much about this girl neither all the reasons that lead her to such choice but all I knew was that I had to help her. Within a couple of hours I was able to change the girl's perspective on her life and the choice that she was about to make.

At that moment I knew that's what I wanted to spend my life doing. I wanted to help people, I wanted to keep making a difference in people's life like I did on that girl's. I couldn't picture myself doing anything that didn't involve helping others. That was my defining moment. I realized what I was truly capable of and what I wanted to become in life. This is one of my many motivations to becoming a Psychologist.

My major goal to fulfill is to become a Psychologist. I believe that by becoming a Psychologist I can be able to do many great things. I would be able to set a great example to my siblings the young and older ones that weren't able to go to school. Moreover, I would also be able to change people's view on how they think that someone coming from such background won't ever amount to anything in life. If I was able to make it to college I believe that I can get through it all till I reach my goal.

Becoming a Psychologist will shut everyone that didn't believe that i would make it so far.  Before starting college my parent didn't even believe I was going to get accepted or neither that I was going to become anything. They both told me to join the Navy because i had no future. I never believed that, something always told me i had a greater purpose in life than that. The experience I talked about above encouraged me to go after my major goal because that was something that not only did I enjoy but I also was interested of learning more to help others cope with depression, stress , and etc.
